The CSA Travel Protection, Custom, travel insurance policy provides two ways out of the contract prior to departure. If the subscriber is not satisfied for any reason, the vendor will refund the price of the plan at any time within 10 days of purchase, provided the trip has not started. In addition, this policy pays a pre-departure trip cancellation benefit in a number of different situations outside of the control of the insured. The covered events include:
- Cancellation of common carrier arrangements due to organized labor strike, weather or mechanical failure
- Common carrier delays due to weather or mechanical failure of the common carrier
- Death, sickness or injury of the insured, a family member or traveling companion
- Traffic accident (documented) en route to departure
Once underway, if the trip is interrupted, this travel insurance policy reimburses the insured up to 150 percent of the unused, non-refundable prepaid trip expenses. Events that trigger the trip cancellation benefit are as follows:
- Court summons or jury duty
- Destination accommodations ruined by natural disaster
- Hijacking
- Home rendered uninhabitable due to natural disaster
- Involuntary termination of employment
- Mandatory evacuation
- Passport or Visa theft
- Quarantine
- Revocation of approved, written military leave because of temporary or permanent reassignment
- Terrorist act
- Transfer of employment of 250 miles or more
Another benefit kicks in for travel delays. Up to $1,000 is available (at $150 per day) for reasonable expenses if the covered trip is delayed for at least six hours as a result of:
- Civil disorder
- Common carrier delay
- Death of a family member who is traveling with the insured, or death of a traveling companion
- Hijacking
- Loss or theft of passport
- Natural disaster
- Quarantine (other than as a result of epidemic or pandemic)
- Sickness
- Unannounced strike
